Kazakhstan adoption faqKazakhstan Adoption FAQ

What are the children from Kazakhstan like?

There are children as young as 10 months from Kazakhstan as well as older children waiting for families. All of these children need a family to call their own. The children's ethnic background is Russian and Asian mix. They have light to olive colored skin tones with brown Asian eyes and soft brown to black hair. The children live in orphanages. The orphanages are poor but well run, and the caretakers do the best they can for the children. All children are screened for Hepatitis B and C and HIV.

How long will the process take?

As with all adoptions, much will depend you you. Many families can get their home study and dossier ready in 2 to 3 months. Once your paperwork is gathered, apostilled and turned in to WIA, the process can begin with translation and the Kazakhstan Consulate where the dossier receives review and foreign approval before being sent to the foreign country.

Both parents must travel, but one parent can return home after the court date which is approximately 14-19 days, making the total time in country approximately 28-30 days. There is also the chance that two trips may be required, this is at the the discretion of the Judge in the region and the foreign facilitator. A very realistic time frame for an adoption in Kazakhstan is approximately 6 to 9 months following the dossier submission.

Can I adopt more than one child at once?

In rare circumstances there are siblings available. It is. also possible to adopt 2 unrelated children a the same time.

Do I need to travel in order to complete this adoption?

Yes, there is no way that the travel or the time the government requires you to spend in Kazakhstan can be circumvented. However, most parents consider this a cultural enrichment period and try to take as much of the experience home with them as possible.

Do I qualify to adopt from Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan prefers to work with married couples.
