Adopting from Ghana

Adopting from Ghana is a great choice for families thinking about international adoption. Ghana is located in West Africa and is considered one of the most stable countries in Africa. The children available for international adoptions long to be part of a stable, loving family. The children love to play and have fun just like all other children around the world and dream of a better life with opportunities for the future. The children have beautiful brown skin, dark brown eyes, and brown/black hair. Most of the children are in fairly good physical condition although there are children with special needs avail able. The age of children available for international adoption ranges from infants to 15 years of age and both boys and girls are available.

Parents who want to complete a Ghana adoption must qualify and meet all regulations set by the government of Ghana.

  • Must be a married couple.
  • Adopting parents must be at least 25 years old and under 50 years old.
  • Adopting parents must be 21 years older than the child they adopt.
  • Cannot have more than 6 children currently living in the home.
  • Prior marriages are not a deterrent to adoption.

Ghana Adoption Timeline

Part of the timeline for adoption from Ghana to be completed depends on how long it takes adoptive families to complete the paperwork required by the adoption officials of Ghana. Some families take several months to prepare the dossier while other families finish quickly. However, once the dossier is submitted to Ghana, it takes 12 months to complete the adoption process. A reasonable estimate from beginning the process to finishing the process is approximately 15 months.
