Haiti
Humanitarian Aid - By Shannon Cox
In December
of 2004, I was able to make my first trip to Haiti. WIA had collected
nearly $1500 cash in donations given by friends of the agency, and this
money was to purchase food, clean water and other necessities for the
orphanage we were currently working with. WIA also collected 4 huge
suitcases (over 280 pounds) of formula, diapers, bottles and other things
to donate to the orphanage. It was so wonderful to see the look on the
faces of the caregivers at the orphanage when they saw all of the supplies
we brought to them. At one point I was in the infant’s room and
a baby boy had a bad case of diarrhea. One nurse looked at the other
nurse attending the babies and signed, saying “We have no more
diapers”. I said to them “YES YOU DO!” and I was able
to run upstairs and bring down the boxes of diapers for the babies.
What a joy that moment was to me.
In April
of 2005, I was again able to go to Haiti and I carried as many supplies
as possible in my two suitcases as well as some cash for necessities
for the orphanage. The staff of the orphanage was very grateful to WIA
for the help provided, and it was a blessing and a privilege to be able
to help these children to all of those who had donated to this project.
In 2005,
WIA donated money to sponsor schooling for several children living in
Haiti. Providing an education for the children of Haiti is the first
step in helping this country break the cycle of poverty and despair.
We encourage anyone interested in helping the over one million orphans
of Haiti to open their hearts and their checkbooks to help these little
ones. A donation of only $250 can keep a child in a private school for
one year. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please contact
us at WIA to get more information on this worthy project.
