post placement adoption informationPost Placement

Most foreign countries require that post placement reports be sent on a specified schedule to assure foreign officials that the child and the adoptive parents are doing well. Anywhere from one to six post placement reports are required, depending on the foreign country requirements. A social adopted child photoworker visit should be scheduled from 3 to 6 months after you return home so the social worker can visit with you and your child to complete this post placement evaluation. When completed, the evaluation is sent to the foreign adoption authorities. This is an important commitment on your part. Fees are charged to pay for translations and mailing and you will be asked to sign a contract agreeing to do post placements after your child is in your home. WIA has a post placement specialist who will help you with post placement requirements.

In the past adoptive parents had to complete naturalization forms and submit these forms to USCIS in order to naturalize the adopted child. In October of 2000, the Child Naturalization act was signed into law. This means that when an adopted child enters the U.S., citizenship is automatically conferred on the adopted child and no other action is necessary for citizenship.
