Services for Military Families and Families Living Abroad

Wasatch International Adoptions has assisted many military families and families living and working abroad with the adoption children from our international programs.  Often time’s prospective adoptive families are unsure how to obtain home study services and are also unsure if they qualify for adoption.  WIA has placed many children with families living abroad and as long as one of the prospective adoptive parents is a U.S. citizen we can help you if you are interested in adopting a child.

Adoption Programs

Wasatch International Adoptions offers international adoption programs for both Military families stationed outside the United States, families working for the U.S. government, and families living and working abroad.  Since the United States ratified The Hague Convention Treat a few years ago, adoptions for families living outside the U.S. desiring to adopt a child from a Hague Convention country have changed.  If you would like to adopt a child from a Convention country you should check with your host country’s Central Authority (CA), the organization in charge of adoptions, to ask the following questions:

  1. Do you confirm that we are the prospective adoptive parents are considered to be habitual residents of the United States for the purpose of a Convention adoption and are not subject to local adoption laws and procedures?
  2. If yes, is a US home study provider, working under the supervision of a U.S. accredited Adoption Service Provider, authorized to conduct your adoption services in the country in which you are living.

If the answers are yes to these two questions, then WIA can help you adopt a child from a Convention country.  For non-Convention countries, the process of international adoption has not changed and adopting a child from a non-Convention country does not fall under Hague requirements.   To obtain a list of countries that have signed The Hague Convention Treaty, click here.
